Myths primary purpose is to help us develop psychologically irrespective of its external truth value

Nietzsche suggests that loss of collective faith in religion and traditional morality would create a widespread existential crisis. Typically it had been religion that played the role of meaning and myth. The myth embodies wisdom of generations past, offering solutions & meaning helping unite a culture under a shared vision. Modern life in general however has little to do with religion or anything spiritual. Understanding the working of the natural world with science has helped reach beyond previous primitive attempts with myth. Yet, science has fallen short of supplying meaning. When considered objectively by our scientific mind the myth often has no basis in reality. However the myths primary purpose is to help us develop psychologically irrespective of its external truth value.
